What made you choose this venue?
Sarah’s mum actually suggested Weston Park as Sarah had ideas for the wedding to be garden themed, lots of plants etc and the Victorian Orangery was just perfect with the plant climbers up the walls and the very light and airy feel it had! As soon as we saw it, we just fell in love!
How did you arrive at the venue?
Ben has an old Volkswagen Beetle, which is bright green – known as Betty! This is something very close to his heart and fitted in perfectly with our wedding theme, so on the day, Ben drove us from the church up to Weston Park himself which was so lovely! The Bridesmaids arrived in an old Volkswagen camper van!
What food did you have?
We had goat’s cheese and tomato tart for starter, roast sirloin of beef with garlic mash and seasonal veg and chocolate tart with glazed kumquats and orange ice cream! The food was delicious and we had a lot of compliments from guests!
What was the top two things you wanted at your wedding?
Accessibility for Sarah’s dad as he is wheelchair bound and required a lift to transfer to different floors and 2. To have a really special night where we were able to stay somewhere with a wealth of history, but also felt homely. The staff at Weston Park were so accommodating to my dad’s needs…nothing was too much trouble and the guests’ rooms and bridal suite were breath taking!
How many bridesmaids did you have and what colour were they wearing?
I had 6 bridesmaids who wore a pastel purple skirt and dusky pink lace top, both from Coast! The colours were perfect for the time of year and complimented each of the girls’ complexions brilliantly! The colours were also subtly matched in my bouquet, which was lovely!
Any stand out moments or comedy error that happened throughout the day?
Well the whole day was so lovely but stand out moments were arriving in Ben’s beetle to our guests – that made it so special! Also, Sarah is known to enjoy a pint of ale which Ben’s best man is also very fond of! Knowing this, Sam had secretly ordered Sarah a pint of Enville and presented this to her during the speech! And one of the most special moments was that Sarah’s sister Ellie had written the speech on behalf of her dad John, as his health meant he was unable to write this – it was a beautiful speech and I don’t think there was a dry eye in the room!
How did you dress the venue, for example, what was your colour scheme, DIY?
The venue is so beautiful already and so doesn’t require much dressing! We had a hessian theme and had hessian hangover survival kits as favours which we had made up ourselves for the men and white flip flops for the ladies (for dancing!). We had Weston Park’s in house florist make up our centre pieces, matching my bouquet and arranged around candelabra’s. Ben also constructed our table plan himself, which we got our florist to decorate with the same flowers we had in the bouquets! We also made our own table names, which were different events from our life together which had a story attached to them; i.e how we met etc.
What was the dress like? What was the grooms wear?
My dress was a Maggie Sottero gown which I immediately fell in love with. I also had lace sleeves made for it as wanted a long sleeved dress. It was slim fitting and lacy – quite vintage looking. Ben wore a dark blue suit with a tweed bowtie and waistcoat, which was grey check.
First Dance song?
Our first dance was John Denver – Annie’s Song. This is one of Sarah’s favourite songs, which she used to play to Ben a lot, which he eventually fell in love with too! There was not a moment’s hesitation when it came to picking this – the lyrics are beautiful!
Do you have any wedding regrets or would you have done anything differently?
No – we honestly don’t. We just wish we could do it all over again!
