Volunteering at Weston
Have you a few hours a week to spare?
Upon the death of his father in 1981 the present Earl of Bradford was faced with considerable death duties. Such was his desire to keep the fine collection of paintings and antiques intact that he gave the House and Park to the Nation.
Today, therefore, Weston Park, the ancestral seat of successive Earls of Bradford, is owned by the Nation and vested in The Weston Park Foundation, a registered charity.
Founded in 1986, with funding from the National Heritage Memorial Fund, the charity is responsible for the preservation and maintenance of this magnificent House, contents and Parkland in perpetuity for the Nation. It is also responsible for providing access and education for the public benefit.
Volunteer help is required in various areas: with the main area being a volunteer guide in the House and volunteer assistants in the Granary Gallery. Guides can also consider helping with school parties, wildlife walks, becoming Park Rangers, helping our Head Gardener in the Gardens or assisting our Curator, Gareth Williams, with archive research and conservation.
In return, Guides can enjoy free entry to the House and Park for themselves and up to 3 guests during the Open Season and discounts to events. We are also able to pay a contribution towards your mileage expenses.
It really goes without saying that becoming a Volunteer Guide means that people will be able to mix with friends of similar interests, meeting and working with them in the most beautiful surroundings, whilst at the same time knowing that they are doing a worthwhile job in helping to preserve one of the Nation's great treasures.
