Weston Park, the stately home on the Shropshire \ Staffordshire border, has a great line-up of events this May kicking off with the inaugural Pretty Muddy Cancer Research 5K and 10K runs to the annual Spring Food & Craft Fayre at the end of the month.
Taking place for the first time at Weston Park on Saturday 2nd May, Cancer Research Pretty Muddy isn’t just like any other fundraising event. It is a 5k muddy obstacle course where women of any ability can climb, jog and walk all over cancer.
On Sunday 3rd and Monday 4th May visitors to the estate can hunt for the new and exotic as the Plant Hunters’ Fair lands at Weston. The show is a garden lovers paradise with award winning plants from a huge selection of nurseries with the chance to pick up tips from expert growers.
Get lost in a maze of colour with Head Gardener Martin Gee as he leads a guided Bluebell Walk on Sunday 10th May. Temple Wood in particular is filled with perfume and colour as the Rhododendrons come into full bloom. Walks start at 10.30am and 2pm.
Join Head Chef Guy Day in the kitchen as he rustles up fantastic vegetarian dishes in his Hints & Tips cookery workshops on Tuesday 12th and Wednesday 13th May. Guy will demonstrate delicious ways to cook up a storm with seasonal vegetables, offer tastings and give out recipe cards to take home. With taste-buds tingling guests will then enjoy a three-course set lunch in the Granary Grill.
Set your alarm clock for one of nature’s finest performances as the Dawn Chorus begins as soon as the first light pierces the night sky on Saturday 16th May. Join wildlife expert John Tucker to find out more about the estates’ feathered inhabitants as early risers listen out for numerous species of birds including robins, wrens and blue tits in full song. A hearty full English breakfast in the Granary Grill will follow the walk.
Breakfasts, lunches and afternoon teas are available in the Granary Deli while the Granary Grill will be serving a spring inspired menu. Upstairs in the Granary Art Gallery you can take a look at the latest exhibition or explore the Walled Garden and meet the chickens.
