Upstairs, Downstairs: Behind the Scenes Tour

Sunday, July 31, 2016

Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes at a real Downton? All will be revealed as one of our knowledgeable guides gives you a glimpse quite literally upstairs and downstairs in a working 21st century stately home.

Learn about the Victorian 3rd Earl and his busy household on a tour that takes visitors through hidden corridors and up staircases not usually seen by the public and into fascinating parts of the House.  Areas to be explored include the Servants Hall, Stewards Room, Middle Drawing Room, Boudoir, Family Staircase and some of the 28 bedrooms.  The tour also reveals the work of restoration projects undertaken by the Weston Park Foundation, the independent charity that owns and maintains Weston.

This year we are again commemorating World War One and your guide will talk about the impact of the conflict on the country house, the Bradford family and the tragic tale of R.O.B Bridgeman who died in the war.  You can take up the story again over in the Granary Art Gallery where a permanent exhibition recalls the impact on the wider communities of the families estates.

Tours start at 12noon and 2pm and cost £5.50 per person in addition to standard admission, payable on the day.

*Please note rooms shown on Behind the Scenes Tours vary*
