Architecture Through the Eye of the Artist

Wednesday, March 1, 2017 - Thursday, March 30, 2017

Artists through the ages have used buildings in their work in a variety of ways, as a setting for their subject, such as figures in an interior, as a focal point in a landscape or as the chosen subject of the work, either a single edifice, a street scene or a cityscape, the paintings of Canaletto or the etchings of the 18th.Century Italian printmaker Piranesi being excellent examples.

The works in this exhibition show how a number of contemporary Midland artists have responded to the subject of architecture, demonstrating how the “eye of the artist” can see limitless possibilities for visual invention.
